Personally i really like this menu, and even though it's for kids i think it could fit in well at college with a few changes such as giving the images a more adult feel and using the college's font to go with the theme..
I like the chalkboard with the wood around on this menu, it looks formal however with a bit of fun with the fonts that have been used and the fact that they have used a chalkboard. Maybe because of all the colour in the refectory, a black and white chalkboard for a menu would look nice and wouldn't clash, it would also be low budget because chalks are cheap and you can rub it off and reuse it over and over again!
I don't really like this menu because of the colours, they aren't complimentary so they don't go well together. However, i like how they have actually added images of the food so that you know what you are ordering, i think this would be a good thing for the refectory... I also like how there is still some white space, espiecally around the images to make them stand out.
This is another menu that i really like, i love the use of imagery surrounding the text, it really catches your eye and gives it a type of border, instead of just a black and white board with text on.
I think for the refectory we definatley need to use some kind of imagery/drawings to lighten the mood and catch peoples eye as some people may be put off by a lot of text in such a small space.
